Exclusive Interview with Legends of the Fog ...Rip-Saw (Part 1 of 2)
Haunted House News is the home of exclusive interviews with the biggest owners and actors of Top Ranked haunted attractions on the East Coast! Our first interview in our history starts off with one of Marylands biggest haunt legends in Rip-Saw from Legends of the Fog! This will be a 2 part series.
Haunted House News: Tell us about Legends of the Fog haunted attraction?
RIP-SAW: Legends of the Fog has 5 main attractions. A pumkin patch hayride that is during daylight weekend hours. Human society is there to help promote there cause, as well as helping out. We have a corn maze that is open in the day as well as the night. Haunted Corn Field that is a 3 acre walk through on about 3 acres of corn, a new Funhouse(1st year) and a Haunted Hayride that is a mile long and takes 30-40 minutes to go through. It has approx. 13 sets that the wagon goes through.
Haunted House News: Can you tell us what the green ooze is on your face?
RIP-SAW: The green ooze is the infection that is leaking out due to injuries recieved from others who were trying to do me in. We were all infected by a goverment experiment that has gone wrong in this small town. The infection has turned those who refused to evacuate into super human strength zombies that are on the prowl on the property.
Haunted House News: What is your role in Legends of the Fog?
RIP-SAW: My role in Legends of the Fog has grown over the last 2 years. I currently hold the title as hayride manager, set designer, builder, electrician, and actor at my own set. My whole immediate family is involved with the haunt. There is a small group of us who meet every weekend and build sets, paint them decorate them...we are called the Bone Crew.
Haunted House News: Why should people visit Legends of the Fog this October?
RIP-SAW: Legends of the Fog is a volunteer ran haunt. Everybody is there because they love this stuff and enjoy doing it. We are not a heavily financed haunt. All ideas come from us. We design, build and decorate it all on our own there's a lot of creativity there for the public to see..also Legends of the Fog is out in the middle of a true farm country, no lights from the city to luminate the sky, you are out in the country and that adds to the mystique and errieness.
That concludes part 1 of our exclusive interview with Legends of the Fogs very own RIP-SAW. Look for part 2 coming very soon! Also we will be including all the info, from the address to dates, ticket prices to times of the Legends of the Fog event. Part 2 is a must read for any haunt fan, we will see you then, until then....Happy Haunting!!!!!

Part 2 of our Exclusive Interview with Rip-Saw!!
Here is our exciting conclusion of our exclusive interview with "Living Legend" haunt actor Rip-Saw.
Haunted House News: Is there any thing you would like to say? Any topic, any subject, the floor is yours!
Rip-Saw: Well this is how I got involved in the haunt. I was never a big haunted attraction person, my wife Nicole and mother-in-law Vanessa travel all over to these things. They got started first with LOTF and I helped them at home repairing spiders for a set they were working on. Along came opening weekend and my wife talked me into going to the haunt and hangout, working security etc. Well next thing I know Patrick(son of the owner) asks me if I could work a set for him. He gave me a chainsaw and a mask and sent me on my way, by the end of the night I was stoked this stuff was cool. The next day which was a saturday, me and my wife went to a local halloween store, I spent $80 on a Texas Chainsaw mask, went back to the hayride made some adjustments to my set and went to work that night....I was hooked! In the weeks to follow I began to see what the Barberry Family was trying to do with the haunt, and I wanted to be a part of it, and the rest is history. I have a new large extended family, we do alot together and we are all good friends and our family grows each year we are open. LOTF is different because our scares come from actors, sometimes there are 130 of them on the property. We adjust to each wagon, we are not animated props although animation doesnt get hungry, thirsty or tired. We can scare just about anybody who shows up, because we can adjust to that individual. Big animation props are cool, but they are predictable..actors are NOT!!
Haunted House News: What can haunt fans expect with this years haunted hayride?
RIP-SAW: Well this year we added a new attraction, the Fun House which is under a 30x60 tent, it is going to be a awesome addition to the package deal. This past March we attended Haunt World in St. Louis and we purchased a similation ride..its called "The Last Ride" and it is a coffin you lay down, we close the lid and start the ride....its awesome and I believe we are the only haunt in Maryland who has it. We have also changed the haunted maze's story line, which will make it new for this year. The hayride this year has a new route through the farm so we can get customers through the event more efficiently, we built several new sets so that should make it different from last year. We also did some story line changes so anyone that has came in the past will notice we are trying to keep things fresh and exciting for those who attend.
Haunted House News: When you compare Legends of the Fog to other events that offer multiple events, such as haunted hayrides, haunted houses and corn mazes to that of Jasons Woods and Filed of Screams, where do you rank LOTF compared to them haunted attractions?
RIP-SAW: I believe Legends of the FOg ranks just as high as Jasons Woods and Field of Screams. Although we are similar in what we are trying to accomplish, we are also very different. We do not use animated props which sets us apart from other haunts. Everything that we do is done by people. Of course we arent as large as Jasons Woods or Field of Screams because as I have said before this is only our 3rd year. We have doubled our attendance each year so far and we can honestly say we started from the ground up! Our volunteers are what makes Legends of the Fog! Everyone in our haunt wants to be there and it is a passion, not a job.

Exclusive Interview with Patrick Barberry!!
We recently had the chance to interview Legends of the Fog's very own Patrick Barberry. Here is what he had to say...
Haunted House News: Can you start off by telling us your involvement as well as your families involvement in the Legends of the Fog haunted attraction?
Patrick Barberry: The Barberry Family has owned and operated Aldino Sod Farms, Inc., the home of Legends of the Fog since 1974. I am a 3rd generation sod farmer continuing the family buisness. Aldino Sod Farms operates on more than 800 acres of property between Churchville and Aberdeen. The original buisness plan came about in August of 2006, shortly after my graduation from Salisbury University. After many months of planning and daydreaming, my entire family decided to chip in on the haunt. My father, Mike Barberry, is owner of Legends of the Fog, and he handles mid-way operations. My mother, Charlene Barberry, is the head of sales and promotions. My wife Robyn, is the personnel director and make up artist. My brother-in-law, Donnie Stuchinski helped start the show, and continues to be the main actor in our famous Junk-Yard scene. My uncles Doug and Lucas are two of our tractor drivers. And now my infant son Collin will be along for the ride, although he won't be doing any acting for a while. I am the only employee at this point, I take care of everything from marketing, purchasing, planning and designing.
Haunted House News: The Legends of the Fog really has my group excited. We have your event as one of the top events we will be visiting. Tell us as well as the haunt fans who plan on visiting the Legends of the Fog haunted attraction....what we can expect this year?
Patrick Barberry: This year, fans and newcomers of Legends of the Fog can expect a variety of diverse scenes, settings, themes and characters. Legends of the Fog(herein LOTF) includes three haunted attractions, and a 5-acre corn maze. Each attraction has its own theme and plays by its own rules. First, navigate through the HUGE 5-acre Maze of Darkness. There are no actors inside, but you'll have to use a great sense of direction to find your way through, but new for this season, emergency exits(or sissy exits)will help you get back to the midway. Carsons Manor is an orphanage secluded in the middle of a cornfield. Next, take on the brand new SiNiStEr CiRcUs with exotic clown characters and mind-bending scenes. Finally, abandon all hope and hop on the haunted hayride. The haunted hayride has risen to a all new dimension from last season. As far as I know, it is the only solid-themed hayride available. The setting is based in a small town which has been overrun by an infectious fog transforming its victims into zombies.(I am a terrible writer, please read the new chapter of LOTF featured at http://www.legendsofthefog.com/attractions/hayride.html) We have been planning and building LOTF since the beginning of March, and have worked many nights and weekends to make 2009 a really exciting show. In addition to the 4 main attractions, we have the Last Ride Coffin Simulator, a single-person motion simulation experience. We have great food including pit beef, ham, and turkey, and plenty of food including popcorn, funnel cakes, fries and much more. Finally, while you are waiting in line, enjoy some of Baltimores BEST bands and entertainers.
Haunted House News: It has always been a dream of mine(before writing came along) to run my own haunted house/haunted hayride event. How much fun is this for you, helping to run a such a big haunt in the Legends of the Fog?
Patrick Barberry: Running a big haunt like LOTF is a BLAST!! I love the ability to take crazy thoughts out of my head and put them in the woods. I love networking with other buisness owners, and meeting new people through Legends of the Fog. Finally, I have made some amazing friends at LOTF, and I have also revisited old friends who help at the haunt. The drawbacks, I don't have much time to spend with my wife Robyn, and my one-month-old-son, Collin. I burn the candle on both ends to make sure I am here for them, and still have the haunt ready. To sum it all up, I would say it is the best job in the world for me. I get to be both creative and conventional on a daily basis. I love the fact that I go to work carrying both a briefcase and a toolbox. I can wear anything from a ratty pair of jeans and my safety green LOTF t-shirt to dress pants, a shirt and tie, and a snazzy sports jacket.
Haunted House News: Is there anything you would like to add? You can say anything you want...any subject, any topic?
Patrick Barberry: I just want to thank all of my friends and family who devote SOOO much of their time building and running Legends of the Fog. I think Legends of the Fog has alot to offer to the haunt industry, and we will strive to keep it fresh for many years to come. Quote of the Month:"If you got it, you got it. If you don't, get it, get on it, or get out." Thanks for putting this interview together, and we welcome you to our haunt.
Us here at Haunted House News would like to thank Patrick Barberry for taking time out for this interview, and we look forward to visiting Legends of the Fog on Sept. 26th there opening night!!
