Celebrity Interview with Horror Actress...April Burril aka ChainSaw Sally
This interview first appeared in my column at the National Sports Review. Since it is a interview I have done, I have copied the NSR interview for you Haunted House News readers.
Each month I will be doing a celebrity interview outside of the sports world. Last month we talked to legendary singer/actor Tony Clifton. This month as October approaches I have had a chance to interview my favorite actress of all-time, April Burril aka ChainSaw Sally. Besides her very popular DVD ChainSaw Sally, she now has a new ChainSaw Sally series, that you can watch online at www.chainsawsallyshow.com I recently had a chance to interview this great horror actress, and here is what she had to say…
National Sports Review: First off, my favorite all-time movie is the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. In your movie ChainSaw Sally your co-star was the original LeatherFace and chainsaw welding maniac Gunnar Hansen. How much fun was it working with him?
April Burril: Well, of course, Gunnar is wonderful to be around - a really nice, witty individual. However, Gunnar plays my father in the movie “Chainsaw Sally” in Sally’s flashback childhood memories, so the actress who actually recieved the honor of sharing screen time with him was my stepdaughter, Lillian Burril. I was on set that day though (wouldn’t miss it for the world!), and we all had a great time.
National Sports Review: You now have the Chainsaw Sally Show which is produced by the legendary Herchell Gordon Lewis, which can be seen online at http://chainsawsallyshow.com/ How long did it take you to film this whole series?
April Burril: Since it’s an 11 episode series, it basically was like filming a 5 and a half hour movie. We started in February 2009 and worked through till April. Then there was some additional pick-up scenes over the summer. Jimmyo is actually still editing the episodes that haven’t yet aired. It’s alot of work, but totally worth it! We’re all pretty pleased with the final product.
National Sports Review: I hope this doesnt end up being the dumbest question, I ever ask in my journalist career, but is Porterville, Maryland a real place or just a fake location where ChainSaw Sally lives?
April Burril: Sort of both…. at the time of filming, we lived in a little town called Perryville, Maryland, which is where we did almost all the filming (with additional scenes at other Maryland locations). The name, of course, was changed for the movie. Porterville, itself, is fictional.
National Sports Review: I usually never admit I am a fan of someone when I interview them, but I have to admit that I am a big fan of your’s. But who is April Burril aka ChainSaw Sally in real life? How would you describe the real you?
April Burril: Hm….. pretty much the Chainsaw Sally character, but with out the actual killing and eating of fellow humans. Artsy, punky, I like to laugh… I like to read… I care about my family… yeah, pretty much just Sally. Oh, and I don’t live in a trailer in the woods. And my real life little brother doesn’t cross-dress.
National Sports Review: Is there anything you would like to add? You can say anything you want, any topic, any subject, this is your chance to say anything you would like.
April Burril: Just for everyone to make sure they check out The Chainsaw Sally Show at www.chainsawsallyshow.com. Episode 1 will remain available until Sept 29th, after that episodes start dropping off each week (Ep. 2 goes the next week, etc). After that, fans will have to wait for the dvd release later that fall to catch everything. (lots of extra stuff on the dvd - including scenes deemed too naughty for the webisodes!)
ALSO, keep an eye out for our other film, a psychological thriller titled “The Good Sisters,” starring myself and Debbie Rochon as a couple of very paranoid, not-so-nice witches. Distribution hasn’t happened yet, but we expect it soon. Keep you eyes peeled!
I would like to thank April Burril for taking time out to do this interview with us. I would recomend all my readers to check out her ChainSaw Sally Show online, I watched the first 2 episodes so far, and I was very impressed. ChainSaw Sally Show review(Episodes 1-4)
JimmyO is a master horror writer, with just enough humor involved to keep readers hooked like a BASS caught on a oriental fish hook! As a writer, JimmyO gets alot of my respect.
